What is Reiki?

I get asked this question a lot, so I thought it would be a good blog topic!

So let's cover the basics first ....

Reiki is an alternative therapy based on energetic healing with a lineage tracing back to Japan. In Japanese the word Reiki comes from 'Rei, meaning universal and 'ki' meaning life energy.

Reiki can be delivered both in person using a hands-on and off method, as well as distance healing online. In both treatments universal healing energy is channelled to the client. This can help to remove any energetic blockages in the body, often resulting in emotional and physical release. It is known to be a great stress reliever!

In terms of impact, I would highly recommend not just one session of Reiki but either 3 or 6 depending on what your intention and focus is. I compare it to any other wellness activity, one good meal or one gym session doesn't create transformation and Reiki is no different! I also speak from experience in my own journey and only after multiple sessions did I start to really feel the shifts. Continued commitment to sessions is also where I have seen the most profound changes in my clients.

It is hard to put into words what to expect from a Reiki session, there are various techniques and each practitioner will be different. Just to add another layer too, there are different Reiki 'Schools' and each lineage of teachers may have slightly altered the practise. I am attuned to the Usui method so I use symbols and language to call in the frequency..... (sorry if that one was TMI) It is also likely that the experience you have will also change even if you go to the same practitioner! It can change depending on the day, your energy, your practitioner and how open you are to receiving the energy on the day .... and probably the moon too! The key thing to do is to keep an open mind and relax into the session, trusting that the energy is being directed where it is needed.

As I have mentioned above, we all have a physical body that we are very familiar with and often make time to maintain (them healthy meals and gym sessions!) However in western culture we don't seem to place as much emphasis on the fact that we are also made up of energy (this has now been proven by science, everything is energy!)

In my healing journey focusing on my energy has been a game changer and I am super passionate about sharing it. You may have experienced this yourself or even heard friends stories of holistic therapies and the benefits it can have, if you are curious to try Reiki, I would highly recommend you follow the calling ... that's where it started for me :)

It is not surprising it can have such a profound effect on people. Our bodies right down to our cells as well as the aura surrounding our bodies are all energy. Cleansing and learning to understand this energy is an act of self care and can have lots of positive effects on your mind, body and spirit connection impacting your overall wellbeing.

I hope I have answered some questions for you here. Please drop a comment below if there is something else you would like me to cover.

Lots of Love

Disclaimers - Reiki should not be used in place of medical treatments for illness, but can but a good supporting therapy. If you are unsure if you should have Reiki because you are under the care of a doctor for treatment please check with them first.
